Sketching While Subbing

I’m currently a high school substitue teacher.  Eventually I plan on looking for a permanent teaching position, but for the time being I’m enjoying the flexibility that subbing affords.

Within the work day of a substitute teacher, there is inevitable downtime: that prep period that you normally get all to yourself, and often other moments as well – like hall duty during an assembly.  I like to do something productive with that time.  Sometime I’ll sketchnote while reading or watching a video, but I have also enjoyed picking something in my surroundings and then sketching it.  Here are some things I have sketched so far:

Sometimes I’ll take it one step further and sketch out a simplistic version of the object that I could use while sketchnoting.  Here’s an example of how I did with that a document camera:

But even if I don’t take that extra step, I still enjoy capturing a piece of the day and a piece of the classroom that serves as my office for the day.
